2 Vehicle Accident Route 724 - 5/31/2008
Second Accident with Entrapment for the Day Claims a Life
On Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 1538 the Chester County Fire Board alerted the Ridge Fire Co. (Station 62) and Goodwill Ambulance of Pottstown (Medic 329) for an Accident with Entrapment on Rt. 724 in front of Calvary Baptist Church in East Coventry Twp. Chief 62 arrived on scene with two vehicles, two trapped, and placed a helicopter on standby. The police requested Rt. 724 shut down between Sanatoga Rd and Frickslock Rd. Rescue and Engine 62-2 arrived on scene and went to work stabilizing, extrication on the pick up truck, and patient care. Engine 62-1 took the LZ in the church parking lot. Additional medic units were requested out of West End Ambulance (MICU 67) for a total of 4 patients. SkyCare 1 landed and flew one patient to Reading Hospital, MICU 1-67-2 and MICU 67-5 each transported by ground to Reading, While PennStar 2 flew a fourth patient to HUP. Police later received news that one of the patients had passed away and a reconstruction team was requested to the scene. Fire Apparatus cleared the scene while reconstruction took place. Fire Police kept Rt. 724 closed for an extended period while the accident was investigated. At 1914Hrs Chief 62 terminated command and all units opened the road and went available.
