Drill - Airpack Confidence Training with Kimberton - 6/10/2009

  On Wednesday, June 10, 2009 Crews from Kimberton and Ridge Fire Companies met up at Station 61(Kimberton) to gain experience with going through a multitude of scenarios while breathing from an SCBA and having no visibility. The evolution consisted of advancing a charged 1-1/2” hose line through two sets of doors and down a narrow hallway constructed of 8’ tables on their side until the crew reached an exterior door where they were instructed to open the nozzle and flow water. From there the crew was lead to an open studded wall where they had to practice taking their air pack off and passing through the wall, then turn around once their partner was through and climb through the window opening, sounding the floor before stepping over the window sill. The crew was then lead to a narrow long wooden box that contained several low hanging wires throughout. Each member had to feel out and try the best path for them to navigate the passage. The final scenario to undertake while still breathing air was to follow an uncharged hand line through a maze of narrow passages to locate an unconscious victim and rescue that victim from the maze. Once each member was through they were given the chance to go back through the building and look at each obstacle they had been forced to overcome and gain more feedback from the training officers. It was a fun night for both the members of Ridge and Kimberton and we look forward to more joint trainings in the near future.
