2 Alarm Fire in East Vincent 6/12/2005

  On Sunday, June 12, 2005 at 21:05 Hr Chester County Dispatch alerted Ridge Fire Co. (Station 62) and West End Ambulance’s Substation (MICU 1-67) to Porters Mill Rd by Ridge Rd in East Vincent Twp for a Dwelling Fire. Deputy 62 and other firefighters were able to see the column of smoke from miles away. Deputy 62 advised Chief 62 of the heavy smoke and at that time the 2^nd alarm was struck. Bringing Kimberton Fire Co.(Station 61) full company assist to the scene. Deputy 62 arrived on scene moments later of a 1 story single-family dwelling (S.F.D.) with an attached garage housing a compact car fully involved with fire advancing into the house. Porters Mill Command was then established. Engine 62-2 and 62-5 along with MICU 1-67 arrived on scene and began an aggressive exterior and interior attack of the fire. Engine 62-1 arrived and picked up the 5inch supply line 62-2 laid down the driveway. Rescue 62 arrived on scene and utilized its light tower to illuminate the driveway and also stood by with additional water until Tanker 61 arrived moments later to supply the 62 units down the driveway. At that time firefighters had the bulk of the fire knocked down around the garage, but a lot of interior extensions work needed to be done.   Engine 61-1 and Tower 61 also arrived with fresh manpower to relieve some of the 62 personnel. Even at 21:00 Hrs the temperature was still very high along with the high humidity levels, which exhausted firefighters quickly. Also Chester County had filled the standbys at 62 and 61. Liberty Fire Co. (Station 63) with Engine 63-5 and Spring-Ford Rescue Squad (Station 72) with Rescue 72 were relocating to Station 62 when they were requested to the scene for water supply plus manpower and Rescue 72’s Cascade system to fill air bottles. Dispatch then sent Elverson Fire Co.(Station 32), Ludwigs Corner Fire Co (Station 73), and MontCo Humane Fire Co.(MontCo 84) to Station 62. Chester County Fire Marshals FM-100 & FM-101 responded to the scene for the investigation. Once fire was under control at 21:41hour crews began overhauling the house for hotspots and salvage. After all hoses and equipment were back on the trucks all units were able to clear by 23:30Hrs.
