Phillies vs Rockies Game interrupted with a Working Electrical Fire
On Monday, October 12, 2009 at 2009Hrs the Chester County Fire Board dispatched the Ridge Fire Co. (Station 62) and West End Ambulance Sub-Station (MICU 1-67) for a House Fire on Old Schuylkill Rd between Reitnour Rd and Linfield Rd in East Vincent Twp. Chief and Deputy 62 went enroute and were advised that the caller stated there was fire burning in the wall. Engine 62-1 made the response and arrived to find a light smoke condition within the house. Crews stretched a hand line into the Kitchen and Laundry area as well as a second line to roof at the rear of the house above the affected rooms. Interior crews found a working electrical fire burning inside the wall between the kitchen and laundry rooms. Appliances were removed and the wall and ceiling opened up to expose a smoldering fire extending up the wall and along a ceiling joist. Quick work by a residence with a fire extinguisher helped to keep the fire contained until the Engine arrived. Battalion 62 assume Old Schuylkill Command and requested Engine 63-5 (Spring City) and an Engine from MontCo station 51 (Linfield). Ladder 63 was nearby at that time for their weekly training night and also responded for the assist. Upon 63 and 51’s arrivals command gave them instructions to assist the 62 crews opening up the metal roof to check for extension and to extinguish the remainder of the fire. Crews also assisted with clearing out insulation from where the wall and ceiling was opened up to search for extension. Command placed the fire under control at 2047hrs. Chester County Fire Marshals and PECO were requested to the scene as well. Utility 51 was also on scene and assisted with lighting. All units were made available at 2154hrs.
