Kitchen Oil Fire movie clip {1.4 MB}
This is a dramatic video (30-second, very short) about how to deal with a common kitchen fire ... oil in a frying pan.
Please read the following introduction and then watch the show .. It's a real eye-opener!!
At the Fire Fighting Training school they would demonstrate this with a deep fat fryer set on the fire field.
An instructor would don a fire suit and using an 8 oz cup at the end of a 10 foot pole toss water onto the
grease fire. The results got the attention of the students.
The water, being heavier than the oil, sinks to the bottom where it instantly becomes superheated. The explosive
force of the steam blows the burning oil up and out. On the open field, it became a thirty foot high fireball
that resembled a nuclear blast. Inside the confines of a kitchen, the fire ball hits the ceiling and fills the entire room.
Also, do not throw sugar or flour on a grease fire. One cup creates the explosive force of two sticks of dynamite.
The Ridge Fire Company started a new Smoke Detector Program 11/2007. Working in conjunction with Lowe’s Home Improvement of Pottstown, PA, (610)427-6000, we are making available to families, who qualify, free Smoke Detectors. These are meant for families/people with low income, elderly, disabled, etc. Lowe's of Pottstown has donated a box of Smoke Detectors for our program.

"Words of Wisdom"
TO ALL DRIVERS, YOUNG AND OLD
PLEASE!!!
The members of Ridge Fire Company DO WANT you to have fun at your proms, parties, and celebrations and it would be fun to meet you, HOWEVER we do NOT want to get to know you better during an accident in which you are involved!!!
Do NOT drink and drive!!!
DO wear your seat belts!!!
Do NOT "show off" while driving!!!
DO pay attention while driving!!!
Do NOT use your cell phone while driving!!!
DO obey speed limit, stop, etc. signs!!!
Do NOT drive while sleepy!!!
DO pull over and rest if tired or after you've been driving awhile!!!
Please be safe so you can have fun another day!!! Thanks, Ridge Fire Company members.
TURN ON YOUR HEADLIGHTS AT DAWN AND DUSK AND DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER (IE RAIN, FOG, SNOW, etc.)!!!!
While it may not help you see, it WILL help you be be SEEN!!!!
USE YOUR SEATBELTS WHILE IN A VEHICLE!!!!
There was an auto accident in January 2006 involving 4 teens. One died, he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Two went to the hospital, they weren't wearing seatbelts. The fourth walked away with minor scrapes and bruises, he was wearing a seatbelt!!!
DO NOT SMOKE IN BED!!!!
HAVE WORKING SMOKE DETECTORS!!!!
Test every month!
Change the batteries AT LEAST once a year! Twice is better!
{A good time to change your smoke detector batteries is when you change your clocks for Day Light savings in the fall and spring.}
WARNING!!! Incorrect Emergency Information!!!
E-Mails have been circulating stating that you can reach the police from your Cell Phone by dialing *677. This is INCORRECT!!! While in SOME areas dialing *77 will connect you to the State Police, it will NOT give your location to the operator!! On the Pennsylvania Turnpike you can use *11 from a Cell Phone or dial (800)332-3880. The Pennsylvania Turnpike also monitors CB Channel 9. Note the milepost markers so as to be able to give location!
In an Emergency, dial 911!!!
If using a CELL PHONE you MUST be able to give the operator an idea of where you are!!
