On Wednesday Evening (3/20/24) around 6pm Engine 62-5 was alerted to assist Royersford Fire Dept (Station 98) as part of a 2nd alarm assignment for a working row house fire on 2nd Avenue in Royersford Borough. Engine 62-5 and other surrounding companies arrived to find a building consisting of 6 residential units with heavy fire present in the east side of the building and heavy smoke pushing from all units. Engine 62-5's crew were given orders to take a handline in the 2nd unit on the west side of the building and make way to the 2nd floor to ventilate and open up. While the crew was making their way into the 2nd floor front bedroom there was a partial collapse on the east end of the building were the bulk of the fire was located forcing all interior operations to stop and crews to pull out and move to exterior operations only. Several master streams from aerial ladders and ground monitors were put into service to bring the 3 alarm fire under control. Crews on scene faced increasing strong winds that kept fanning the fire, dispersing water streams and causing near zero visibility for crews and apparatus on the east side of the scene. Engine 62-5 and crew operated on scene for approximately 3hrs before returning to station around 9:30pm to clean up gear and equipment.

Royersford Borough and the Red Cross are coordinating the support for the displaced victims of the fire.

While Engine 62-5 was on scene in Royersford, crews back at home handled a working brush fire in East Coventry Twp.
