At 01:20hrs on Thursday morning Chester County Communications alerted Station 62 (Ridge) for a brush fire in the area of Kolb Rd and Baptist Church Rd in East Coventry Twp. Captain and Chief 62 went responding and were advised that they were now getting reports of a possible dwelling on fire and were upgrading the assignment bringing in Goodwill EMS (Montco 329) and Limerick FD (Montco Sta 51). Chief 62 arrived in the area and located the fire to be on Kolb Rd closer to Bethel Church Rd and was trying to make access to it down a narrow driveway. Deputy 62 arrived and established Kolb Road Command and began guiding apparatus in. Engine 62-1 laid a supply line down the driveway up to a narrow bridge that could not be crossed. Crews stretched the 2.5in Blitz line along with high rise packs to begin putting water on the 30x40ft barn that was fully involved. Engine 62-5 setup tanker operations with Battalion 62 on Kolb Rd supplying Engine 62-1 while Rescue 62 and Squad 51 made their way up a narrow secondary access off Bethel Church Rd bringing them up to the top side of the barn. Crews contained the fire and brought it under control at 01:53hrs with extensive overhaul as additional thunderstorms and heavy rain were moving into the area. The East Coventry Twp Backhoe was requested to the scene to begin pulling the heavy timber contents of the barn out so it could be extinguished. Tankers from Norco (64), Kimberton (61), Limerick (51) and Valley Forge (68) were used to shuttle water to the fire supplying Engine 62-5. All units were made available at 04:09hrs.
The Chester County Fire Marshals office is handling the investigation of the fire.
