Just before 8pm , Station 62, Station 69 (Twin Valley), Engine 73-5, and Ambulance 189-1 (Elverson Honey Brook EMS) were dispatched to the 1600 block of Old Ridge Road for smoke in the dwelling. LT and Deputy 62 arrived with a light smoke condition in the attic area and a probable chimney fire. Engine 62-1 arrived and utilized a thermal imaging camera to locate the fire. Crews discovered a fire burning in the area of the chimney that had extended outside the flue liner into the original stone farmhouse chimney. Ladder 69 was placed into service, and their crew ascended the roof and began to try to extinguish the fire from the top side. Engine 62-1 placed a hand line into service up the ladder and to the first floor. Chief 62 requested Tower 64 (Norco) to the scene to assist Ladder 69’s crew on the roof and side of the house in the event that further overhaul was needed to access the fire. Crews from Rescue 62 and Engine 73-5 assisted on the first floor with fire suppression and overhaul. 62 Fire police detoured traffic around the scene. Crews were able to locate the deep seated fire and bring the situation under control with dry chem, multiple water cans, and the hoseline. Crews were in service for about two and a half hours before returning to the station.
