By Ridge Fire Co.
May 21, 2022

On Saturday, May 21st at 16:30hrs Chester County Communication alerted Ridge (62), Limerick Fire Dept (MontCo 51) and Goodwill Ambulance of Pottstown (MICU 84) to the 900 block of Ebelhare Road in East Coventry Twp for a house fire with possible entrapment. Battalion 62 went responding and was advised it was reported that a lawn mower had caught fire in the garage and that two people were still reported to be inside. PD arrived shortly after, followed by Battalion 62 and reported the front of the house fully involved with all occupants out of the house and requested the Working Fire Dispatch brining in additional Fire and EMS resources and starting PECO and CC Fire Marshals to the scene. Engine 62-1, Engine 62-5 and Ladder 51 arrived on scene and began an aggressive exterior attack with multiple handlines in service. Rescue 62 laid a supply line up Ebelhare Rd from Engine 62-5 to Linwood Cr so a tanker shuttle could be started with tanker resources responding from northern Chester County and western Montgomery County as part of the first alarm tanker taskforce to maintain water supply. Due to the high heat and humid conditions and extensive fire load a 2nd alarm was requested for additional manpower. Goodwill EMS (84/329) and Friendship EMS of Royersford (83/325) worked together to get rehab setup to look after all responders on scene. Tankers shuttled water through Linwood Circle with a fill site setup at the former East Coventry Elementary School. With the bulk of the fire knocked down and contained Command placed the fire under control at 18:31hrs with extensive overhaul needed. Crews began to work within the dwelling to evaluate structural conditions and extinguish what fire they could make access too. It was determined the structural conditions were not suitable for interior work, so crews began opening the rear of the structure from the outside and a backhoe was requested from the Township to assist. Crews continued to work on making access to the remaining fire located in the center of the 2nd story with the assistance of the Township Backhoe for another 2hrs. All remaining units cleared the scene at 20:25hrs.

Through rehab evaluations of responders and residents, two subjects were transported to Phoenixville Hospital for further evaluation.
The Chester County Fire Marshal’s Office is handling the Fire Investigation.
